Why should you support CLB?
Imagine losing your visit at 58. It happened to Alice.
Alice was 58 when she lost her vision. Before that, she drove her own car, cooked her own meals, saw her 17 year-old son grow up. When she lost her vision, she was lost. She sat depressed in her house for two years. She knew there was a community like her, but she didn't know how to tap into it.
This isn't a rare occurrence - 1 in 3 people over 65 are at risk of losing their vision. Thankfully, there's hope.
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind has been serving the blind and visually impaired in the DMV for over 100 years. Their goal is simple - independence.
They do this in two important ways:
Independence in Life - Orientation and Mobility Training, Independent Living Skills training, and Adaptive Technology Training help consumers reclaim independence in their life. Whether they want to cook a homemade meal or head downtown to go to work - CLB teaches the skills so they can.
Independence at Work - It starts with Job Skills Training where they teach employable skills. Then they practice what we preach. CLB has contracts with various entities that allows CLB to facilitate job placement for low vision and blind consumers.
These programs have life-changing impact. Alice can explain...
"When I was finally able to get a seat at the table at the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind... the beginning of my life started all over again. I am happy. I am elated. I am truly happy about the possibilities ahead of me. I can thank [my teacher] Annie Presley and Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind for giving me that confidence.”
Supporting CLB is simple. Just press donate and give what you can. Funds raised will help more people start their life all over again, like Alice.
